October 2017 Intake - Virtual Training School eLearning and Resident Courses for Health Workers

The courses are offered via distance-eLearning mode and employ a flexible approach that allows you to study at your own time and pace as you work and attend to your usual daily activities. The nurses who join the upgrading courses get an opportunity to access funding from Johnson and Johnson in partnership with Amref Health Africa.

1. Pre-service KRCHN programme (Direct entry)

This is a 3½ years diploma programme that has integrated General nursing, Midwifery as well as Community health. The programme is offered on a full time basis and is accredited by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK). Learners have the opportunity to acquire clinical competencies in highly reputable clinical settings within Nairobi and its environs; Aga Khan University Hospital, Karen hospital, the Kenyatta National Hospital, Meridian-equator and Kajiado County hospitals. In the advanced stages of training learners will be exposed to community nursing and midwifery in accredited county and sub-county hospitals. During the supervised county community health placements, learners will be accommodated outside Nairobi preferably within their counties of origin. The programme is well supported by a team of highly trained and competent faculty, mentors and clinical instructors. The programme is also supported by a well-equipped high fidelity models skills lab at the Amref International Training Centre.

Requirements

K.C.S.E mean aggregate of a C (plain), or KCE Division II, a C (plain) or Credit in English or Kiswahili, a C (plain) or Credit in Biology or biological Sciences, a C- (minus) or PASS in physical sciences or Physics or Mathematics.


2. Bsc. Nursing (BScN) Upgrading Program through blended E-learning (offered in partnership with the university of Nairobi)

This is a 2½ year course (8 trimesters) that enables all cadres of diploma nurses i.e. KRN, KRCHN, KRM or KRPN to upgrade to Bachelors level.

Requirements

A diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution with a valid Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) License.
A minimum of 2 years working experience in a relevant setting (clinical or community).
A mean grade of C plain or Division II in O-Levels and a C Plain or a Pass in either English or Kiswahili

3. ECHN – KRCHN eUpgrading Programme (Tuition fee Partially Subsidised)

This is a 2 years course that enables Enrolled Nurses (ECHN) to upgrade to the level of Kenya Registered Community Health Nurses (KRCHN).

Be a Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nurse (KECHN)

4. Enrolled Nurse / Midwife EN/M - KRCHN eUpgrading Programme (Partial Scholarship available to applicants who meet the criteria.)

This is a 2 ½ years course that enables Enrolled Nurses / midwives (EN/Ms) to upgrade to the level of Kenya Registered Community Health Nurses (KRCHN).

Be an Enrolled Nurse Midwife (EN/M)
Intakes: March and October


5. Higher Diploma in Comprehensive Reproductive Health Course: (1 year)

This course is recognized by the Ministry of Health.

Requirements
Be a health worker: Nurses, midwives and Clinical Officers.
Intakes: May and October


6. Leadership, Management and Governance

This is a six-month distance education course with a supervised workplace/ health facility quality improvement practical project.

Intake: January, May and October


7. Clinical Teaching, Assessing and Mentorship (school-based)

This is a two-week school-based course, including practicals.
Requirement
All health workers qualify

8. Basic Life support course

A 3 day course that aims at equipping the participant with the basic knowledge and skills to manage emergencies.

9. Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ACLS and ATLS) courses

These are a two- week course targeting health care givers with the intricate skills and knowledge to manage critical patients who require both advanced cardiac life support and advanced trauma life support care.
