This course is designed to contribute to the improvement and build the capacity of programme/project managers and programme staff in management, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programmes/projects. The course provides in depth theory and practical management and sustainability skills.

Target Group

This course will benefit programme/project managers and programme officers.
The course is divided into 6 units below:

Unit 1: Institutional Development and Organisational Strengthening
The content includes organisational vision, mission, purpose, objectives and activities, strategic planning and alternative options, monitoring and evaluation.

Unit 2: Participatory approaches
Content includes: participation concept, consequences of participation, stakeholders and beneficiaries, participatory approaches, participatory tools and team work.

Unit 3: Sustainability
Content includes: definition, fundraising, NGO financial management, and endowment fund, workable sustainability plans

Unit 4: Leadership
Course content include: definition, types of leaders, nature and culture of NGOs, leadership in NGO’s, tools for leadership analysis, empowerment of NGO workers

Unit 5: Results Based Management (RBM)
Course content include: definition, principles of RBM, applying RBM in programme planning, defining expected results, conducting programme performance assessment, linking indicators and results, monitoring of results, RBM reporting.

Unit 6: Programme Exit Strategy
Course content include: exit strategy concept and steps in exit strategy

Commitment
Certification - The participants, upon successful attendance of each short course will be awarded an AMREF certificate of participation stipulating the topics covered.
Learning Resources:- Computer laboratory with internet access; A well-equipped clinical laboratory where trainees carry out practical examinations; A state-of-the-art health library which
provides access to information that is otherwise unavailable locally
Costs: - Training costs covers lunch, stationery, field trips and all course related learning materials.- Accommodation (US$ 48 per day) To cover half board accommodation (bed, dinner and breakfast) including daily transport to and from the training venue using the AMREF bus.
Mode of payment -  All payments to the course should be made two weeks to the commencement of each course in cheques payable to AMREF or through bank transfer to the AMREF account
Tailor made courses: AMREF organises customised short courses for groups of not less than 15 participants in health and health-related fields, tailored to the needs of individuals or organisations.
